Padel has become part of the holiday experience. Coastal resorts in Spain, Portugal, and France now list padel courts alongside the pool and the gym. Hotels in Dubai, Bali, and Thailand have started adding courts to attract European guests who simply will not stop playing. If you're travelling this summer, there's a good chance there are courts wherever you're going.
The challenge is always the same: you've got a group of friends or family with very different ability levels, nobody wants to sit out for long, and you don't have a tournament organiser standing by. That's exactly where Americano comes in โ and why it's become the de facto format for holiday padel worldwide.
Why Americano is perfect for holiday groups
Americano was designed for mixed groups. Every player rotates partners and opponents every short match. Your score is entirely personal โ you accumulate points as an individual across every game you play. This means:
- A complete beginner and a club-level player can be on the same court and both enjoy it
- Nobody gets stuck playing with the same person for two hours
- Matches are short (typically 16โ24 points), so everyone plays constantly
- The social side is built in โ you're playing with everyone, not just against them
If your group includes more competitive players, consider Mexicano instead. Mexicano ranks players after each round and pairs top against top, bottom against bottom โ it self-balances automatically, so competitive players get pushed while beginners aren't crushed.
Holiday rule of thumb: Mixed abilities, social fun? โ Americano. Group of friends who all play regularly and want real competition? โ Mexicano.
Where to play padel on holiday
Padel courts are now genuinely easy to find across most popular holiday destinations. Here's a region-by-region guide:
๐ช๐ธ Spain Padel HQ
The birthplace of modern padel. Costa del Sol, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Mallorca all have dense court networks. Most urbanisations and resorts have courts on-site. Booking apps: Playtomic, Padelmania.
๐ต๐น Portugal Fastest Growing
The Algarve is a padel hotspot โ virtually every golf resort now has courts. Lisbon and Porto have seen explosive club growth. Playtomic works here too; many hotels have courts bookable at reception.
๐ซ๐ท France Booming
French Riviera (Nice, Cannes, Monaco area) has excellent courts at tennis clubs. Paris has over 100 venues. Look for clubs near the beach on the Atlantic coast โ many have added padel in the last two years.
๐ฎ๐น Italy Emerging
Growing fast, especially around Milan, Rome, and coastal Sardinia. Many beach clubs (lidi) have added padel courts in the last two summers. Search locally via Padel Manager or ask at the beach club.
๐ฆ๐ช UAE / Dubai Premium
Dubai has world-class indoor and rooftop padel facilities, including courts inside malls. Padel courts are standard at major hotel complexes. Book via Playtomic or directly through hotel concierge.
๐ Southeast Asia Rising
Bali has a small but growing scene, particularly in Seminyak and Canggu. Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur all have established venues. Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing padel markets globally.
Tips for playing at resort courts
Resort courts come with their own etiquette and logistics. A few things to know before you arrive:
๐ Book early
Peak-hour morning slots at beach resorts fill up fast. Book the night before or first thing in the morning. Many resorts only let you book 24h in advance.
๐พ Bring your own balls
Resort balls are often dead or heavily worn. A fresh tube of balls makes a big difference to the game. Most pro shops on-site sell them.
๐ก๏ธ Play early or late
In Spain, Portugal, and southern France in July and August, midday courts are brutal. Target pre-10am or post-6pm slots for comfort and better play.
๐ฑ Check court surface
Outdoor resort courts vary: artificial grass, synthetic turf, or cement. If you have padel-specific shoes, bring them โ smooth soles on gritty cement courts is a recipe for slipping.
๐ฅ Respect session limits
Most resorts cap court sessions at 60 or 90 minutes, especially when courts are shared. Plan your Americano rounds accordingly โ 16-point matches fit neatly into a 90-minute slot for 8 players.
๐ง Hydration first
Playing in heat is genuinely taxing. Keep water courtside for every player. Consider shorter match lengths in very hot conditions โ 16 points instead of 24.

How many rounds should you play?
As a guide for a 90-minute court session:
- 8 players, 2 courts, 16-pt matches: 7 rounds fits comfortably โ everyone plays every round, no sitters.
- 10 players, 2 courts: 5 rounds, with rotating sitters โ plan for 75 minutes.
- 12 players, 3 courts: 7 rounds, all active every round โ around 80 minutes with short breaks.
Areno calculates the schedule automatically when you set the player and court count, so you don't need to work any of this out yourself.
Whether you're at a Costa del Sol resort with eight friends, a Bali villa with four couples, or a hotel in Dubai with colleagues from a conference โ padel Americano is the fastest way to turn a group of people with different ability levels into a proper tournament. Set it up in two minutes, let Areno handle the scheduling, and focus on what actually matters: winning the holiday title.
